President's November Message

November Message

           Welcome to the November Presidents message.

           Dan Soltyka and I still have some gift certificates left from this season. If you think you have something coming please contact us and we will arrange for you to get them. We will mail them to you as long as you realize it is at your risk as I have had them become lost in the mail.

           I have finally got the pictures I took at the Member – Member tournament up on the website. (Thanks Amanda) Please take a look at them when you get a chance. For the latest news and updates make sure you check our web site www.emgc.net .

           Please feel free to drop me or any other board an email as to what you liked or did not like this season. Your ideas will be brought to the entire board at our January meeting when our 2009 plans are put in place. Remember the only bad idea is one not communicated to the board.

Upcoming events in October:

           Remember the local handicap season is now closed, but if you go to an active season i.e. Florida, your scores should be posted in the spring. If you have a question about who is in an active season consult the USGA web site.

Congratulations:

          The hole in one club was not won this season.  The money will roll over to next season’s jackpot. Remember you will have to pay again next year to be in it.

Friends and Family corner:

          Joe Trawinski is again battling illness. Keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Remember to keep the men and women in our armed forces in your thoughts and prayers.

A little humor:

The Golf Pro Prayer

The Pro is my Shepherd, I shall not Slice.
He maketh me to Drive Straight Down Green Fairways;
He leadeth me Safely across Still Water-Hazards;
He restoreth my Approach Shots.
He Leadeth me in the Paths of Accuracy for my Game's Sake.
Yea, though I chip through the Roughs in the shadows of Sand Traps,
I will fear no Bogies. For his Advice is with me;
His Putter and Irons, they comfort me.
He prepareth my Strategy for me in the presence of mine Opponents;
He anointeth my head with Confidence:
The Cup will not be runneth over!
Surely Birdies and Eagles shall follow me all the Rounds of my Life,
And I will score in the Low Eighties

Amen

Pace of Play:

          Take only one practice swing.

A Couple of Rule questions:

Q: A player who has a pitch shot places a club on the ground off his line of play to indicate the distance he would like his ball to carry and leaves the club there during the stroke. What is the ruling?

A: In view of the purpose of Rule 8-2a, in equity (Rule 1-4), the player incurs the general penalty of loss of hole in match play or two strokes in stroke play.

Q: A player plays a stroke from the putting green without having the flagstick attended. The ball stops momentarily on the lip of the hole and then falls into the hole. The player claims that the ball fell into the hole without striking the flagstick and therefore he incurs no penalty under Rule 17-3. Is the claim valid?

A: No. A ball is not holed until it is at rest in the hole -- Definition of "Holed." If the flagstick is in the hole, it is impossible for a ball to come to rest in the hole without striking the flagstick.

Something to Ponder:

          The greatest motivational act one person can do for another is to listen.
